“Former enemies turned into reliable partners. Three wars within a few decades causing hundreds of thousands of deaths were followed by a long-lasting period of peace”.
The “Élysée Treaty” was signed on 22nd of January 1963 in Paris by the French President Charles de Gaules and the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. It initiated a period of stability, prosperity and mutual trust in Europe. The Treaty has also established the Franco-German Youth Office, which has brought together many young people from both nations in intercultural youth exchanges.

50 years “Élysée Treaty”: Success story and task for the future
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the “Élysée Treaty”, the chairmen of the Parliamentary Groups of UEF Germany in the European Parliament and the German Bundestag, Matthias Groote and Manuel Sarrazin, together drew up a declaration, in which they state that the “Élysée Treaty” embodies historically unprecedented political success story.
