Who is your candidate for President of the European Commission?
The citizens have the right to elect the President
of the European Commission
The UEF invites you to debate with the representatives of European Political Parties the possibility to bring more democracy in the EU by involving the citizens in the election of the president of the European Commission.
The Treaty of Lisbon opens the door to the European Parliament to elect the President of the European Commission (Art 9A and 9D, Lisbon Treaty). In view of the forthcoming 2009 European elections, this is a historic opportunity for the European parties to build a link between the citizen vote and the political vision for the EU.
The nomination of the candidate for president of the European Commission from each political party would open the door to European-wide campaign for elections, upgrading the role of the European Political Parties.
Find what the European Parties think in this regard on Tuesday 24th of June in the Eastman Building.
The key note speech will be addressed by Andrew Duff, Member of the European Parliament, and Chairman of the Federalist Intergroup.
