MFE kicks-off the Campaign for a European Federation
On May 8, at its Central Committee meeting in Rome, the MFE has launched its Campaign for a European Federation in support of UEF’s actions for a federal Europe.

Initiative in Pavia, Italy

The campaign is centred on an Appeal “We the European People” calling for the creation of a European federation by those countries wanting greater European political unity. The text of the appeal in various languages can be found on www.wetheeuropeanpeople.eu.

The MFE has also started preparations for the launch of a European Citizens Initiative to promote a European growth plan based on European own resources. In the past few weeks MFE’s campaign and proposal for an ECI have been presented to a number of representatives of political and social organisations.

Campaign has been already advertised among Italian poltical actors: Franco Spoltore, the new Secretary Geneal of MFE, presented MFE’s initiatives to Pier Luigi Bersani, National Secretary of the Partito Democratico, and the major party in the centre-left and also met with Benedetto della Vedova, parliamentary chairman of Futuro e Libertà, a centre-right party. Lucio Levi, President of MFE, discussed the federalist actions with Susanna Camusso, Secretary General of CGIL, the largest Italian trade union.

MFE expressed its support to Emma Marcegaglia, the President of Confindustria (the Italian Industry Federation), who called for a United States of Europe and a European growth plan at the annual assembly of the Italian industry. On Tuesday June 7 representatives of federalist organisations will meet with trade unions CGIL, CISL and UIL to debate the need to develop a grassroots’ mobilization campaign for a European Federation / United States of Europe and to launch a European Citizens Initiative (ECI) demanding a European development plan supported by adequate European fiscal resources.
