UEF Belgium General Assembly approves a Call for the United States of Europe
UEF-Belgium held its annual Congress on 10 September 2011. Special guests were Pierre Defraigne, Honorary Director general at the European Commission and Executive Director of the Madariaga Foundation; Paolo Vacca, member of the UEF Bureau; Catherine Vieilledent, Secretary general of UEF Groupe-Europe and member of the UEF Bureau; Paul Collowald, former spokesperson of the European Parliament.
Domenico Rossetti di Valdalbergo presented the activity report, pointing out the huge amount of activities the section has been able to participate in, in particular the organization of seven public events in the frame of the European project “Les Midis de l’Europe”. The political debate was introduced by Michele Ciavarini Azzi who focused on the major political events that consolidated UEF-BE political strategy in 2011 and on the future challenges for the Federalist organizations. The urgent need of a radical change in EU politics was stressed. Paolo Vacca gave an overview of the strategy of UEF and stressed the momentum for federalist activists to take an initiative, notwithstanding the current difficulties and the growing strength of the intergovernmental approach in Europe. A very rich debate took place and was finalized by the approval of a call "A United States of Europe". We need it urgently. We need it now”.  Finally, the Congress welcomed Olivier Lenglez as new member of the board. All the other members have been reelected in the board. Paolo Clarotti, Salvatore Rossetti, Jean-Jacques Schul and Roger Vancampenhout have been confirmed as political advisors.&nb
