The XXV national Congress of MFE (UEF Italy) was held in Gorizia on 11-13 March, 2011, with the participation of more than 200 delegates from 105 local sections, under the slogans “Yes to the European Federation, to govern European economy, to have a European foreign and security policy, for a fair and sustainable development, to contribute to peace and justice in the world”.
The Congress was preceded by a round table, chaired by the President of MFE, Lucio Levi, on “What kind of Europe could face the challenges of economic crisis and globalization?”. After a very lively general debate, the new Central Committee and the Italian delegates to the UEF Congress were elected. The general resolution unanimously adopted at the end of the Congress affirmed the engagement of MFE to launch a “Campaign for the European Federation” asking for an initiative in this direction by a group of states and supporting initiatives of the European Parliament, of the Commission or even of the Council which could allow progress towards the federal unification of Europe. This Campaign should involve the public at large, civil society organisations, and the political class at local, national and European level and include all the different initiatives undertaken at local level (including the Citizens’ conventions) under the heading “A hundred towns for the European Federation”. The campaign itself should be concluded by a national “Convention for the European Federation” to be held by the end of 2012.The Central Committee convened immediately after the the Congress confirmed Lucio Levi as UEF Italy’s President for the term 2011-2013 and elected Franco Spoltore as the new General Secretary and Claudio Filippi as the new Tresaurer.Next training seminarsTraditionally, several regional centres of MFE organize in spring training seminars for students in collaboration with GFE (the Italian branch of JEF).
